Trying to get passports for my kids.
For the first time ever im looking at going abroad for our holiday and taking the kids too. This means we all needed passports as we have never been abroad before. Now this should be pretty straight forward but what seems to throw a spanner in the works is that im a single parent and to apply for the passports i understand i need both parents signatures on the form to apply. Now im sure for most people this is not a problem but my ex is a pain in the backside and dealing with them is never easy!. I looked at parental equality ireland to see if there was anything to suggest i don’t need my ex’s signature but it was not very clear. I looked then at seeking advise on becoming sole guardian so i didn’t need both signatures but again i am lost and confused! i suppose it was a long shot but i thought there might be some sort of parental guardianship form i could fill in to apply but im sure its not that easy. I think the whole passport system is a bit silly and could do with being looked at again by someone who realises that some people do not have the luxury of being able to get a signature from a parent whenever they want. In reality so many things can get in the way and stop this when its the kids that it hurts more than anyone else as it is them who are looking forward to it most of all. I just wish there some simple way to just apply for a passport based on my details.
